Development, Implementation
Project Dates:
May 2007

The IONA Group has no shortage of talented Flash animators and developers, but as school ended in May of 2007, all their hands were hard at work crafting their incredible Improv-O-Gram project for Tyson foods and as a result, I was tasked with building this interactive that would launch with a new Caterpillar property, safety.cat.com.

Mantainable Animation

I was given a detailed PSD mockup for each of the main screens of the interactive, and I was in charge of doing all the animation and building all the interactive elements. This interactive was built using Flash 8 and ActionScript 2. As with every interactive I do, I used the mc_tween library to handle all the animation. I developed this piece in such a way that all animations could be easily tweaked by editing one or two variables, which is one of the best reasons to use programmatic animation like mc_tween or Tweener.

Building Other Interactions

The two sections containing the hazard and avoidance pictures were handled through a component which The IONA Group had already purchased. The piece uses some pretty sophisticated dynamic masking in the exercises section, in which users built a warning label that looks just like one that would be found on a real piece of Caterpillar machinery.

This interactive was featured with the launch of the safety.cat.com site and is still available online.
